According to the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) President, Angel Cabounu, the salary of Headmasters and Mistresses of the various Senior High Schools in Ghana has been made public.
During an interview with Kwame on Okay FM yesterday morning, Mr. Cabounu remarked, “I can say for a fact that all the heads receive less than ghc4000.” Schools like Adisadel and PRESEC were also suggested. He stated it was simply a moniker, but that didn’t mean anything in terms of pay.
During his remarks about the currently on-strike teachers, he stated that they would not return to the classroom unless the Government meet their demands. Aside from NAGRAT, GNAT, CCT and TEWU, he said that all four teachers’ unions are participating in this strike.
Their only demand is for a percentage of their gross compensation, which he indicated was 20%.
Many people were astonished by the disclosure, believing that the head of a large school would receive a bigger salary than the head of a smaller one.
We have high hopes that the administration and the striking teachers will come to an agreement that addresses their concerns.
