Director General Approves “Gurune” to be Taught in Schools-GES

The Director General of Education, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwah has approved Gurune, a Widely Spoken Language in the Upper East Region to be taught in Schools within the Country.

The approval was signed in a letter dated 18th July 2022. There has been calls by elders of Navrongo to approve The Language for studies in order to project the culture and major communication tool of the over 80,000 Residents within the Kasena-Nankana Municipality.

“Gurene Approved as Language of Instruction”

Management of Ghana Education (GES) is in receipt of a letter referenced

NaCCAG/25 dated 7h May, 2021, on the above subject from the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).

Management of GES wishes to inform you that NaCCA has received approval from the Government for Gurene to be taught as an official Ghanaian Language in schools. Gurene is to be developed and taught at the early grade level.

NaCCA IS therefore in the process of developing the appropriate teaching and learning materials for Kindergarten and Lower Primary Schools.
