The Akro Senior High Technical School (Akro Sec Tech) in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region has been shut down after some students assaulted two suspected thieves on Friday, January 21.

The students had seized young men from the town who had sneaked into the girls’ dormitory in the night to steal, beaten one of them to death and the other dropped unconscious.

Emmanuel Kpabitey Sackitey and Solomon Odoi, had sneaked into the school in the night at about 10 pm on a mission to steal but it turned out to be a tragic misadventure as they were captured by the students who physically assaulted two persons who invaded their campus until they fell unconscious.

When the police received information and got to the place, things had become too late for Emmanuel Kpabitey Sackitey, he was gone.

The other victim of the attack, Odoi Solomon, survived but is in critical condition at the same facility. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Following the incident, the youth of the town however, are rejecting the claim that the two are thieves, stormed the school premises and attacked some of the students.

The Ghana Education Services’ Spokesperson in the Eastern Region, Emmanuel Acheampong told CitiFM radio station that “Given the situation, a good number of the students have already left although we are yet to complete the academic year of 2021. We started with the examinations but under the current situation, it will not be safe to keep them so we have asked that they go back home so that if everything normalizes we come back safe and continue to finish the academic year,”

Odumase-Krobo District Police Commander, Superintendent Doris Grant explained that she dispatched some Police officers to the school to save the situation.
